Q: What’s the difference between open captions vs closed captions?

If you find the terms open captions, closed captions, open captioning and closed captioning confusing….SO DO WE. You are not alone, my friend!

Many of us find these terms confusing, so here’s our simple explanation:

• When you go to a movie theater:

  • OPEN CAPTIONS = movie will play with on-screen captions (just like when a movie plays with subtitles).

  • CLOSED CAPTIONS = theater will offer a device which will display captions for an individual viewer (like a display that mounts to your seat cup holder or special glasses).

  • IN A NUTSHELL: at movie theaters, (OC) or open captioning will be on-screen for everyone to see, while (CC) or closed captioning will require a device for each individual to view captions, provided by the theater.
    (P.S. No shade on closed captions, but we LOVE open captions!)

Q: How much does it cost to join OCMovieClub?

• OCMovieClub is 100% free. (Like, for reals free…there is no “premium tier” or switcharoo we pull later. ALL Members get equal access and ALL Members get access to OCMovieClub for free.
  

Q: How is OCMovieClub free? Who’s paying for this?

• At the moment, OCMovieClub is being funded out-of-pocket by our Founder, Chris, with all of the coding work being done by Chris and his nephew! Q: How often will OCMovieClub send me emails?

• OCMovieClub sends out one weekly email with listings of open caption movies playing near you.
  

Q: Are there any other membership perks?

• We are working on that! We hope to be able to offer weekly and monthly give-aways for Members only like free movie tix….stay tuned!
  

Q: Will OCMovieClub emails always have every open caption movie showtime playing in every theater near me?

• At the moment, OCMovieClub emails will usually have the majority of open caption movie showtimes playing near you, but some showtimes for independent or mixed-use theaters (such as event spaces or theaters that host other events besides movies) may not be listed. We are working to find a solution and we want to continue to improve OCMovieClub — we welcome your feedback on this!
  

Q: What can I do if my favorite local movie theater isn’t included in my OCMovieClub weekly emails?

• Email us! You can always REPLY to any OCMovieClub email and it will go directly to our Founder — and he will be sure to get back to you! We will then try to contact your favorite local movie theater to see if we can work with them to get their open caption showtimes included in our weekly OCMovieClub emails.
  

Q: How do I cancel my OCMovieClub membership?

• We have made it easy to cancel any time. At the bottom of your OCMovieClub weekly email, there will always be a link that say “Unsubscribe”. It is a quick and easy process to unsubscribe.
  

Q: What will happen if I unsubscribe?

• When you unsubscribe you will no longer be a OCMovieClub member and you will never receive any more emails or weekly listings from OCMovieClub ever again.
  

Q: I signed up for OCMovieClub, but I’m receiving open caption movie times for the wrong region?

• Email us! You can simply REPLY to any OCMovieClub weekly email and it will go directly to our Founder. We want OCMovieClub to be helpful! Tell us the zip code for the area that you live in and we’ll make all the necessary adjustments on our side so that you will receive open caption movie showtimes for your area.
  

Q: Is the story of the founding of OCMovie Club really true?

• Yep! OCMovieClub was created by us after we saw how hard it was for our Dad, Ernie, to find open caption movie showtimes near him. Once we figured out the coding to send our Dad a weekly email with all of the open caption movie showtimes playing in his neighborhood, we thought we would offer it to everyone in America.
  

Q: Does OCMovieClub only exist in the U.S. or can I get it in other countries.

• At the moment, OCMovieClub is only for movies playing in the United States.
